Sizing & Placement
How do I know this light will fit my space?
The main things to check are wall space and projection, how far the fitting extends from the wall. You'll find exact dimensions above (width, height, and projection depth). As a rule of thumb, leave at least 15 to 20cm of clear wall space around the fitting on either side, and position the light so the bottom of the shade sits roughly at eye level or just above when seated, for bedside and reading lights.
What height should I mount a wall light?
It depends on its purpose. For bedside reading lights, 140 to 160cm from floor to the centre of the fitting works well for most beds and headboard heights. For hallways and living rooms used as accent or ambient lighting, 180 to 200cm is a common mounting height. For bathroom mirror lights, centre them at approximately 175cm, or position one either side of the mirror at face height. We're happy to advise for your specific setup, just get in touch.
Will two of these look right paired either side of a bed, mirror, or fireplace?
Many of our wall lights are designed to be used in pairs. Check the product dimensions and ensure you have equal wall space either side. As a starting point, space them 90 to 120cm apart (centre to centre) for a bedhead, and roughly 80 to 100cm apart for a bathroom mirror, depending on mirror width.
Light Output & Ambience
How bright is it? Will it light up the whole room?
Wall lights are typically used as accent, ambient, or task lighting rather than a room's primary light source. A single wall sconce adds atmosphere and layering, for a bedroom or hallway this is often all you need. For a living room, we'd recommend pairing wall lights with a ceiling light or floor lamp for full coverage. This light usesan integrated LED, no separate bulb needed.
Is it dimmable?
It can be dimmable if you select the dimmable option and use a compatible wall dimmer switch. If you already have a dimmer installed, we recommend matching it with the right bulb type (LED dimmable bulbs if you use LED).

Warm or cool light — what should I choose?
That’s determined by the bulb color temperature.
Warm white (around 2700-3000K) = Soft, cosy glow. Best for living rooms, bedrooms, dining areas, and anywhere you want a relaxed atmosphere.
Neutral white (around 3500-4100K) = Balanced, natural light (closer to daylight). Great for kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, and home offices.
Cool white (5000-6500K) = Bright, crisp light that boosts visibility and focus. Common for workspaces, utility rooms, garages, and task-heavy areas.
Installation & Safety
Is this fixture hardwired or plug-in?
Hardwired sconces connect directly to your wall's existing wiring. Plug-in models with a trailing cable can be used without any electrical work.
Do I need an electrician?
For hardwired wall lights, yes, we strongly recommend professional installation. Running cable to a new wall position and connecting to your existing wiring should be done by a qualified electrician. If in any doubt, book an electrician. We suggest waiting until your item has arrived before booking, so you can confirm everything's in order first.
Does it need a wall back box?
Most hardwired wall lights mount over a standard UK circular back box (typically 25mm or 47mm depth). The exact requirement is listed in the specifications above. If your wall doesn't already have one, your electrician will fit one as part of the installation.
How heavy is it? Do I need special wall support?
Most walls can support standard wall light fixtures when installed correctly with the right fixings. For heavier fittings, or if your wall is older plasterboard or lath-and-plaster, an electrician can confirm the right anchors or whether additional support is needed.
Is assembly required?
Some wall lights require minor assembly, attaching shades, connecting cables, or fitting glass elements. If assembly is needed, you'll find details above. We recommend setting aside an hour depending on the model.
What’s included in the box?
You'll receive the light fixture, wall mounting plate or canopy, mounting hardware, and an installation guide. Shades and decorative components are included unless stated otherwise.
Specific Use Cases
Can I use this as a bedside reading light?
Many of our wall lights are well-suited to bedside use, particularly adjustable models and those with a pull cord switch, so you don't have to reach for a wall switch in the dark. Check whether the light directs downward or is omnidirectional. Directional and adjustable fittings are generally better for reading.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
Only if it carries a suitable IP rating for the zone where you intend to install it. Zone 2 (within 60cm of a bath or shower) requires IP44 minimum. Zone 1 (directly above a bath or shower) requires IP65 minimum. If the product listing doesn't specify an IP rating, it's intended for dry indoor use only. Get in touch if you need bathroom-rated options.
Can I use this outdoors or in a covered porch?
Only if it is specifically rated for outdoor use (IP44 or above). Most of our decorative wall lights are designed for indoor use only. Using an indoor-rated fitting in an exposed outdoor location voids any warranty and creates a safety risk.

Can I return an item if I change my mind?
Yes. You can request a return within 30 days of delivery, as long as the item is unused, in its original condition, and in the original packaging.
How do I start a return?
The easiest way is to contact us at support@civaro.co.uk. Enter your order number and email, choose a return reason, and follow the steps.
Who pays for return shipping?
- Change-of-mind returns: return shipping is the customer’s responsibility.
- Faulty/damaged items: we will make it right — return shipping may be covered depending on the case and item type.
Do I have to return the item to get a refund?
For change-of-mind returns, yes — we process refunds after the item is returned and inspected.
For damaged or faulty items, we first offer replacement parts or a replacement unit and, in some cases, we may not require a return (depending on the situation and evidence provided).
What condition must the item be in?
Returned items must be:
- unused and uninstalled
- in original packaging (including all parts/accessories/manuals)
- packed securely to avoid damage in transit
Items showing signs of use, installation, or missing parts may be subject to a deduction or may not be eligible for a full refund.
When will I receive my refund?
Once your return is received and inspected, refunds are usually processed within 5-10 business days to your original payment method. Banks can take additional time to show the funds (typically a few days).
What if my item arrives damaged or faulty?
Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery with:
- photos of the outer packaging
- photos/videos clearly showing the issue
We’ll offer the best solution quickly: replacement parts, replacement item, partial refund, or full refund depending on the situation.
What if something is missing from my order?
If any part is missing, contact us within 48h of delivery with your order number and photos. We’ll ship the missing part(s) as soon as possible.
What if my return gets lost in transit?
We strongly recommend using a tracked return service and keeping proof of postage. If a return is lost, proof of postage/tracking is required for us to investigate and support the claim.
Can I cancel my order?
If your order hasn’t been dispatched, we can usually cancel it. Once dispatched, cancellation may not be possible — but you can still request a return after delivery.
